Education
Path of Logic continues to prioritize hands-on tissue dissection instruction to the first-year residents. We worked on protocols that were applicable to the most routinely encountered surgical specimens.
Enhancement
This year, Path of Logic physically transported antibodies needed for the thesis projects of two residents and also for basic cancer diagnostics. The lab had been without gloves and masks for 6 months due to government cuts. We stocked the lab to protect the staff for the next year.
Technology
In 2021 we expanded the Laboratory Information Management System that was created in 2019 to two public laboratories in Kampala, which include the Mulago Referral Hospital and the Uganda Cancer Institute. The systems were modified to meet the unique needs of each facility and will reduce turnaround times for pathology results, which is of critical importance for the treatment of cancer.
Encouragement:
For the fourth year, Path of Logic provided living expense stipends to the five residents. In a country where pathology residents are unpaid, many have second jobs on the weekends to support their families. The stipends lessen the financial burden to allow focus to their roles at the Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
Community Project
We’ve been proud to partner with Mpowerd to distribute hundreds of solar lights to rural villages without electricity. Due to this year’s difficulties with Covid, we were unable to visit schools, but plan to pick back up in 2022. To learn more about Mpowerd click here.
